notes of gratitude

Notes of gratitude:

wintering in books and coffee shops and classes, praying little and big prayers, waking up to the sight of a thicker carpet of snow, reading about God our bridegroom, losing myself in a tangle of city streets under soft snowfall, Bach's cello suites (thinking a more beautiful instrument could not possibly exist), candid chats with dear friends, seeking refuge from the bitter cold in warm homes, the hum of water boiling for a cupful of tea, evenings with loved ones over Indian tapas or lamb dumplings, studying Habermas and Engels, maple lattes, watching La Vie en Rose in tears and admiration, discovering Alexandra Streliski and re-discovering Dustin O'Halloran, sister dates involving homemade pancakes, drafting spring break plans, meaningful conversations about mental illness and writing and poverty and the Church, Monday night Bible study with women I love and admire, perusing thrift stores and collecting treasures (a white knit, assortment of Ernest Hemingway pieces, tan purse of dreams, forest green sweater), afternoons at the market, stopping for a cup of joe at a coffee counter on my way to school, dreaming of city life, singing along to Andy Shauf with Laurianne at a concert, love notes sent to my faraway boy (ever thine, ever mine, ever ours), longing for spring and pastel blooms, enjoying this season of life lately: learning the rhythms of connection and rest and grace.
